Adding Dimension ‒ 次元がいっぱい ‒
比巴(VIWA) と垂谷知明(Tomokoaki Tarutani) の視点は、彼らの取り巻く世界をそれぞれ別の次元で捉えている。 無数の外部の要素を取り入れた装飾芸術を、国を主体とする時間の経緯、すなわち「国の歴史」から見いだす比巴の視点を縦の概念とするならば、自己の無数の感覚・価値観による断片を、自分を主体とする同時間を共有した社会、すなわち「自分の歴史」から見いだす垂谷の視点は横の概念となる。お互いに交わり得ない２人のアートコンセプトの次元。しかし、 比巴を縦、垂谷を横の軸と捉えるならば、同次元の同空間を作る事によって交わる事が可能になる。両者それぞれ、別の主体として別次元で捉えた「歴史」から生まれるアートが、今展の空間でクロスオーバーする。
Artists VIWA and Tomoaki Tarutani capture the world from completely different perspectives. VIWA’s approach may be described as a “vertical perspective,” in which he conceives of art from the nation’s view of time—in other words, the “national history”—and incorporates numerous elements from outside to create his art. Tarutani’s view, on the other hand, may be thought of as a “lateral perspective” whereby ideas are drawn from inside: his own senses and values, and ultimately those of his generation—or “personal history.” Works created by these two artists—born out of contrasting views of history—will cross their paths in this exhibition.
